Tai O Fishing Village Tour

Step into Tai O to explore its local history and living culture firsthand

This Tai O fishing village tour brought students into the diverse landscapes of Tai O, by land, water, and narrow lanes, allowing them to experience the serenity beauty of the village.

Students were divided into small groups to explore the intricate structure of stilt houses up close from boats, and witnessed Yau Yung, a unique local ritual with deep historical significance. They also visited the homes of Tai O villagers, taking part in mini activities such as a salted egg yolk workshop and stilt house living experience, gaining firsthand insight into daily village life.

The tour offered even more highlights. Students wandered through Tai O’s vibrant streets and alleys, visited historic sites like the Kwan Tai Temple, Tin Hau Temple, the murals, and Sun Ki Bridge. Throughout the journey, guides provided rich narratives that deepened the students’ understanding of Tai O’s cultural heritage.

What we did

  • Curated and led a cultural tour in Tai O with over 200 participants, immersing students in the unique stilt house architecture, local rituals, and everyday life of the fishing village
  • Designed interactive workshops that enabled students to engage directly with Tai O residents and experience the village’s living traditions
  • Investigated and crafted routes through sites all over the village, deepening students’ understanding of Tai O’s fishing culture
