Walk in Hong Kong aims to not only bring the community together, but also improve it. We are an influential advocate for heritage conservation and social change, and aspire to find ways to include everyone in the conversation.
We are dedicated to preserving Hong Kong’s rich heritage. In 2016, our team launched the “Save Our State” Conservation Advocacy Campaign that successfully lobbied State Theatre, an internationally unique piece of architecture and the last grand icon of the heyday of Hong Kong cinema, from a Grade 3 Historic Building status to that of Grade 1.
The negative impacts of overtourism are becoming more prominent in Hong Kong. We pride ourselves in taking steps to promote more sustainable and authentic experiences in both ecological and cultural domains. Our tours take carbon footprints into consideration and we travel largely by foot. We also engage people in the community to tell their own stories of the district, involving everyone in our tours.
On our walking tours we often come across public spaces that are under-utilised or mismanaged. We believe in the importance of matching public spaces with aspirations of the local community, and would like to get involved. The Belcher Bay Promenade open space in Kennedy Town is Walk in Hong Kong's first attempt in creating a vibrant and people-oriented urban space for public enjoyment.
We care deeply about social inclusion and making sure everyone’s voice is heard. In one of these efforts, Walk in Hong Kong curated Asia’s first LGBT-themed guided tour, aiming to shed light on the rich LGBTQ+ scene hidden by our mainstream society. Our Good Evening Kowloon tour is wheelchair accessible and Story of Kowloon in 6 Tasty Dishes tour is available to the visually-impaired.
