Exploring Mortality Through History, Architecture, and Culture

During the Easter holiday, Walk in Hong Kong partnered with the Consulate General of Sweden to present Life & Death: Hong Kong Cemetery Tour—a reflective, cross-cultural exploration of how death is understood and commemorated in different societies. The tour invited participants to engage with historical sites and open up conversation on a topic often considered taboo.

The experience included guided visits to the oldest cemetery in Hong Kong, a lesser-known Catholic burial ground, and the Race Course Fire Memorial. Swedish filmmaker Sven Blume joined the tour to share insights from his documentary Lewerentz Divine Darkness, highlighting the design and cultural significance of Sweden’s Woodland Cemetery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This programme exemplifies our ability to blend heritage interpretation, intercultural dialogue, and thoughtfully curated storytelling.
