Global Perspectives, Local Encounters: A Cross-Disciplinary Cultural Experience
As part of the ELCHK Lutheran Academy’s “Global City” interdisciplinary programme, Walk in Hong Kong curated a multifaceted educational experience that explored identity, culture, and global citizenship through local engagement. Delivered under the theme “Global Classroom,” the programme combined community tours, hands-on heritage workshops, and human-centred storytelling.
Students first joined a walking tour in Old Town Central, where they explored colonial architecture, Hong Kong’s layered urban history, and the interplay of past and present. In the ICH workshop, students learned the traditional craft of paper effigy-making from Master Au Yeung Ping Chi, creating their own lanterns while understanding the artistic and cultural significance of the practice. Lastly, a Human Library session invited students to listen to personal refugee stories, fostering empathy and cross-cultural awareness. Together, the programme delivered a holistic experience that bridged disciplines, generations, and lived realities.
