Bamboo is deceptively strong. It can be bent significantly before folding; even when folded, it stays as one piece. Its strength and versatility make bamboo the preferred tool of construction and crafts. Indeed, bamboos are part of everyday Hong Kong life — bamboo scaffoldings, dim sum baskets…

As part of PMQ’s “Summer Microadventures”, Walk in Hong Kong teamed up with young product design team KaCaMa Design Lab in creating a series of events, workshops, and tours centred around the theme of “bamboo”. We organized a tour on bamboo-related trades and items around Sai Ying Pun to let kids see the mighty power of bamboo. Participants were then encouraged to let their imagination run wild in designing racecars made of bamboo and testing their handmade toy cars down the slopes of Sai Ying Pun.
