Listening to the Streets: Understanding Pedestrian Behaviour in Northwest Hong Kong
Commissioned as part of a broader walkability research initiative, this project aimed to better understand how people experience and navigate their urban environment on foot. Walk in Hong Kong was responsible for designing and delivering an on-the-ground street survey targeting pedestrians, with a focus on habits, preferences, and perceptions related to walkability.
Over four days of peak-hour street engagement, our trained team carried out field observations and conducted surveys using visual aids to spark interest and interaction. From school commutes to errand runs, the study captured how different groups—especially local residents—move through their neighbourhood. With 500 completed responses, the dataset offers a solid foundation for future planning, analysis, and community-oriented urban design.
